Q: Weather-related Schedule Changes
It's raining/snowing/icy...is practice cancelled?
A:
Call the weather hotline at 443-4CSC to check for last-minute changes due to weather. Sometimes there is enough time to post weather-related changes on the website or via email, so check that as well.
Q: New swimmers
I'm new to club swimming - how do I join?
A:
To join CSC, you must swim for a coach, fill out some paperwork, and pay your dues and registration. Email Coach Sarah Seris to set up an appointment to swim for her for proper group placement. Forms you will need to complete: USAS Registration (mandatory), contact information, and medical information. Fees vary by group. Forms and documents can be found on the "Club Info" page of our website.
Q: Experienced swimmers new to CSC
I am an experienced competitive swimmer with membership in USA Swimming - how do I join CSC?
A:
Contact Head Coach Phil Garverick or Coach Sarah Seris to discuss your times and experience. They will know which group to place you in. You will need to fill out contact and medical information as well as registration information. You will need to pay dues to CSC and transfer your USAS registration. Forms and information can be found in the "Club Info" section of the CSC website.
Q: Registration with USA Swimming
Does my child have to register with USA Swimming to swim with CSC?
A:
Yes. Every CSC swimmer must be currently registered with USA Swimming in order to practice or attend meets. Our liability insurance is only valid if we register the club, the coaches, and all swimmers with USA Swimming.
Q: Annual Registration
When is the annual USA Swimming Registration due?
A:
Annual registration is due to CSC at the start of the new season on September 1. Boys in high school season during the fall may pay their registration when they return to CSC.
Q: Equipment
What equipment does my child need for practice at CSC?
A:
Swimmers should have a practice suit, swim cap, 2 pairs of goggles, and water bottle. Swimmers in all groups except Barracuda should have swim fins. Piranha, Tiger Shark, and Senior groups all need hand paddles. Swim fins and paddles are available online from Action Accents through the CSC website. Please talk to your coach about what size paddles to buy.
Q: Swim Caps
Does my child need a swim cap?
A:
All the girls and a lot of the boys on our team wear swim caps. Swimmers may wear any kind of cap during practice, and coaches usually have free practice caps available to swimmers – just ask for one! CSC caps are available to swimmers for purchase from coaches for 3 caps for $10. Only CSC caps should be worn at meets.
Q: Getting the RIGHT SIZE SUIT
What size suit should I buy for my child?
A:
As a general rule, a training or racing swim suit should feel like it is 2 SIZES TOO SMALL when it is dry. Suits will stretch when wet and if the suit is too big it will be uncomfortable, cause drag, and (in some cases) be on the verge of falling off during practice! If your swimmer says "I think it's too small" when he/she tries it on, it is probably exactly the right size!
Q: Practice or Training Suit
What is a "training" suit and how is that different from a "meet" suit?
A:
A practice suit should be made of 100% polyester. Speedo, TYR, and Nike all make suits that are 100% polyester and will be described as “Chlorine Resistant”, “Training Suit”, or “Endurance” suits. These suits are slightly more expensive but last at least 10 times longer than suits with Lycra. Polyester suits are available at Tryathletics here in Columbia, through our website at Action Accents, and also available at many other places online.
Q: CSC Team Suit for Meets
Does CSC have a Team Suit?
A:
On the CSC website, we have a team suit available through Action Accents. Just click the "Apparel" link from the home page. This is an awesome suit made by Speedo, offered at a reduced price to the team. We encourage every swimmer to purchase a meet suit, but ONLY WEAR IT at swim meets. Meet suits have Lycra in them and will not last long if worn to practice.
